Frequently Asked Questions

What is this project?

Rogue is a dungeon crawling game develooped around 1980 by Michael Toy and Glenn Wichman with later contributions by Ken Arnold. This project remasters Rogue, bringing it up 2025 without changing the gameplay of the original versions. This project takes the original Rogue and places it into a modern engine where features that weren't developed originally were added.

Why early access?

The game as-is is 100% playable today, minus any undiscovered bugs. I'm releasing this project initially as early access because I need time to finish implementing support for more versions, more themes, and more languages.

How do I set the maximum frames per second

By default the game limits the framerate to 30 frames per second. Setting the maximum framerate can be done by navigating to the options menu, press F9 from anywhere in the game to jump directly to the options menu.

Once there, you will find a dropdown menu to select your maximum framerate. If you want to see your framerate in realtime there's a checkbox you can enable as well within the options menu. Once enabled, at the bottom of your screen you will see your framerate in realtime, over the maximum you set in the dropdown menu. To the right you will see a breakdown of how much time your CPU spends processing the game vs sleeping per frame. The more time your CPU spends sleeping the better.
